Alta Head Start Receives Grant to Support Healthy Snacks and Nutrition Education

Alta Head Start has received a $35,000 grant from the William Swanston Charitable Fund. The grant will enable Head Start to continue to provide healthy snacks to participating children in Head Start/Early Head Start classes, while they and their families will receive enhanced nutrition education, which will contribute to better learning.

“We’re very grateful to the William Swanston Charitable Fund for their support of our nutrition initiatives,” said Joseph Shorokey, CEO of Alta Care Group. “We know from years of experience that nutrition plays a very important role in children’s ability to learn and perform well in the classroom. Just as important, though, is that by exposing these young children to healthy eating, we can impact and reduce childhood obesity.”

The William Swanston Charitable Fund is a supporting organization of The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, which is operated exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes that effectively assist and promote the well-being of residents of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.
