Healthy Habits = Healthy Kids
Healthy eating habits are essential to grow and learn. However, many Valley children are going underfed and undernourished. There’s a direct link between obesity and poverty. Most foods that are affordable are often high in sugars, fats and preservatives and don’t offer the nutritional value of fresh produce. It’s often difficult for people to afford fresh fruits and vegetables on a fixed income. That’s why Head Start is launching the initiative Healthy Habits = Healthy Kids.
In most cases, the meals the students eat while they are in Head Start’s care is the most nutritious meal they will eat the entire day. This initiative will provide all of Head Starts 819 student with fresh vegetables and fruit. By doing so, Head Start will introduce healthy foods to children and their families to expand their palate to nutritious food and healthy eating habits. But Head Start can’t do this without the support of the community.
BECOME A SPONSOR
Supplying all of Head Start’s students with fresh fruits and vegetables is expensive. Without the support of our community this program wouldn’t be possible. Your support will assist in meeting our annual non-federal match requirement of $1.9 million dollars, which is necessary to maintain the program. For $2,200 you or your business can sponsor a month of supplying Head Start’s students with the fresh nutrition they need to start on a path of healthy eating.
