I have worked for the Head Start program for 13 years and within the past year I have become the Assistant Director. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Science with a major in Food and Nutrition Dietetics from Youngstown State University and I am a Registered, Licensed Dietitian. My responsibilities in Nutrition as the Health and Nutrition Manager before becoming Assistant Director included overseeing the meals children are fed, accommodating any physician documented allergies, religious preferences and compliance with CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). My primary focus in Health is to ensure each child meets Head Start Performance Standards for 30, 45, and 90 day requirements. I must obtain documentation from physicians for any medical issues, set up hearing, vision, and dental screenings in addition to monitoring immunizations, lead levels and hemoglobin’s to ensure each child is healthy and ready to learn.
